Making Waves of Change - Mbweni Clean Project's First Beach Cleanup

Recounting our experience of Mbweni Clean Project's first beach cleanup, where our dedication met with the determination to create a cleaner, greener future for Mbweni Bay and beyond.

We are thrilled to share the exciting news of Mbweni Clean Project's very first beach cleanup, which took place on January 25th 2024. As the sun rose over Mbweni Bay, our dedicated team, comprised of staff and members of Mbweni Ruins and Gardens, gathered with one common goal in mind: to make a positive impact on our local environment and be an example for others to do the same.

Armed with gloves, bags, and an unwavering determination, we combed the sandy shores, meticulously collecting plastic waste and debris that had washed ashore or accumulated in the surrounding areas.

With each piece of trash we picked up, we were reminded of the importance of preserving our precious marine ecosystems.We also took this opportunity to educate our team members about the significance of maintaining cleanliness not only in our immediate surroundings but also in our homes and gardens.

One aspect of our project that we'd like to emphasize is the importance of preserving the mangroves that line our shores. These unique ecosystems play a crucial role in protecting coastal areas from erosion, providing habitats for marine life, and sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. By keeping our beaches clean, we also ensure the survival of these invaluable mangrove forests.

Our ambitions don't stop there. In the spirit of inclusivity and collaboration, we aim to extend our invitation to our neighbors and wider community for future cleanups. Together, we can amplify our impact and work towards a cleaner, healthier environment for all.
